How to Bath a Cat

When to Bath

Cats don't need to be bathed very often. In fact, bathing them too often can strip their fur of natural oils and make them more prone to skin problems.

What You'll Need

To bathe a cat, you'll need a mild shampoo, a washcloth, a towel, and a bathtub or sink. You may also want to use a rubber mat to prevent your cat from slipping.

Prepare Your Cat

Before you bathe your cat, make sure they are in a comfortable and relaxed state. You can do this by playing with them or giving them a treat.

Wet Your Cat

Start by wetting your cat's fur with warm water. You can use a spray bottle or a faucet.

Apply Shampoo

Apply a small amount of shampoo to your cat's fur. Be sure to avoid getting shampoo in their eyes or ears.

Rinse the Shampoo

Rinse the shampoo off your cat's fur thoroughly. Be sure to get all of the shampoo out, especially around their ears and eyes.

Dry Your Cat

Dry your cat off with a towel. You can also use a hair dryer on a low setting, but be sure to keep it away from their face.
