How to Protect Your Dog from the Heat

Hot weather

If possible, avoid taking your dog out during the hottest part of the day. This is usually between 10am and 4pm.

Plenty of shade

Make sure your dog has plenty of shade to cool down in. If you're at home, you can put up a tent or awning in your yard.

Plenty of water

Make sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times. You may need to give them more water than usual on hot days.

Strenuous activity

On hot days, it's best to avoid strenuous activity with your dog. This includes things like running, hiking, and playing fetch.

Wet your dog down

If your dog is starting to get hot, you can wet them down with a hose or a spray bottle. This will help them cool down quickly.

Take breaks

If you're out and about with your dog on a hot day, take breaks in the shade and offer them plenty of water.

Hot car

This is one of the most important things to remember. Never leave your dog in a hot car, even if it's just for a few minutes.
